Fighting with Diabetes and Winning on Relationship

I am a 53-year-old diabetic man. My problem with erectile dysfunction (ED) started after pursuing a medicine course for Diabetes. It seemed to work fine as far as my Diabetes was concerned but my sexual life was completely disturbed.

Before taking treatment for diabetes, I would say that my wife and I had a satisfactory sexual relationship. We are both working professionals. There were times when neither of us had the energy but when we did have sex, it was easy enough for me to get an erection. But after living 4 or 5 months on diabetes medications, I found that it was very difficult for me to get an erection. Later I realized that I had an ED problem.

After 8 months of medical treatment for diabetes, I just couldn't get a proper erection. It would start but not last. I read more information on the diabetes medications I was consuming to know any adverse effect it may have been causing. I really didn't have the courage to talk to my wife and to my doctor about the ever persisting problem of erection. Because of shyness, I kept the problem with me only. Gradually sex almost became off between me any my partner. Suddenly one day my wife asked if anything wrong :(? I found it oddly difficult to admit that I couldn't get an erection. I felt, it's better to talk about the problem than to run away from that, which is making my sex life miserable. After mustering lots of courage, I talked to my wife and discussed my problem with her. She made the point that sex was not just about intercourse - something that of course I knew and agreed with - but nonetheless I was not finding it an easy problem to accept. She encouraged me to go to the doctor and finally I made an appointment.

My Doctor has changed the diabetes pills. The new pills didn't work as effectively as the earlier medications in keeping my diabetes under control but once the dose was sorted they were fine. Also I witnessed improvement in my erectile dysfunction problem. During that period, I read enough material on my health condition that suggested and convinced me that ED is a common men's problem. Also I came to know that it can be cured easily. It's just a problem and not a disease at all that is caused due to the diabetes medicines I was taking during that period.

I was embarrassed and shy to talk to anybody about the problem. But I must say that it was my other half who encouraged and helped me a lot to fight that condition during those stressful days.

Thanks to my dearest wife, we are happy again.
