Impotence is 'danger sign'
October 09, 2006
About 30% of Thai men over 40 suffer from impotence, a specialist in erectile dysfunction at Rajavithi Hospital said yesterday.
But Wanchai Rakseri said at a seminar that many of the men are too shy to seek medical help, which can put their lives at risk.
He urged men with erectile dysfunction to see doctors who can determine the cause and prescribe proper medication.
Dr Wanchai said there are three main causes of impotence: diseases such as diabetes and heart problems; stress and anxiety; and diminishing levels of testosterone, a male hormone crucial in puberty and sex drive.
Smoking, drinking and lack of exercise will aggravate the problem, he told a seminar on erectile dysfunction at the hospital yesterday.
Impotence can be cured if patients consult doctors in the early stages of the disorder, he said.
Patients should not buy drugs on their own because they can be deceived with fake ones, putting their health in danger.
