"Sexual fantasizing is a natural,
universal psychological phenomenon similar to dreaming,"
according to the book "Exploring the Power of Women's
Sexual Fantasies". "And, like with dreams, some
sexual fantasies are fun and satisfying, while others may
trouble us a lot."
Fantasies are a normal and healthy part of our sexuality.
They are either taken from past experiences or may even
be entirely imaginary. Sometimes a person may have wild
imagination about sex that might not be socially acceptable
or practical or even sort of taboo to the society. Therefore
these erotic needs are only available through fantasy. The
modern woman marvels at sex and sexuality. Every woman on
earth has fantasized about some explicit sexual fantasy
that she may or may not have been too ashamed to talk about.
Whether it's your girlfriend or your wife, today's top ten
list is sure to touch on a forbidden fantasy of her own.
Although most women prefer to keep their fantasies with
themselves without sharing, while others have a list that
they are slowly but surely accomplishing. So the next time
woman seems to be wandering off in thought, who knows, she
may be cruising around in the mystical world of sexual fantasy.
If a woman does not see herself as being sexual, she is
not likely to feel comfortable having sexual thoughts and
fantasies. She may not recognize her sexual fantasies for
what they are.
Nancy Friday started looking into women's sexual fantasies
in the early 1970's, many of the women she talked to did
not know, where having sexual fantasies. Women were seen
as romantic, not sexual. Women could not envision themselves
as sexual individuals, so their thoughts could not be sexual
in nature, even though they actually were. Prior to Nancy
Friday's books, men and women did not believe women had
sexual thoughts, or that they even had a need for them.
When we accept that women are just as sexual as men, we
soon realize they have just as many sexual thoughts and
fantasies as men have. When we see women as sexual beings,
we acknowledge that they too have perverse and kinky sexual
thoughts and ideas.
Sexual fantasy often needs to precede the physical aspects
of a sexual activity, to prepare the body for the physical
sexual stimulation that is to follow. While the brain and
body may work together to signal their desire for sex, we
may desire sexual pleasure more often than this event occurs
on its own; spontaneous physical sexual arousal and thoughts
that grab our attention. For women, they may have learned
to overlook the physical and mental signals of sexual desire
and they may need to learn to recognize them for what they
are, and to be more open and willing to explore them.
Women's Sexual Fantasies
Having a fantasy about a particular sexual practice or
activity does not mean that a person actually wishes to
engage in that behavior or that he/she would enjoy the behavior.
Some men fantasize about multiple sexual partners, but would
find it emotionally difficult to maintain several simultaneous
relationships.
In recent years, there has been a greater openness about
fantasy and a greater recognition of how common this behavior
is for both men and women. While fantasy often is treated
as an individual behavior, partners sometimes "act
out" shared fantasies to enhance their enjoyment of
sex.
