Viagra was approved by FDA for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in men in 1998. After the launch of Viagra various other drugs entered into the market and made the erectile dysfunction drug market more competitive.

A company launches any drug to get profits as much as they can get. Pfizer launched Viagra to get profits. Money was spent on doing advertisement for the promotion of erectile dysfunction drug. Doctors were provided with free samples of Viagra to attract long term users.

There are 30 million American men suffering from erectile dysfunction. After getting this data Pfizer tried its best to trap ED market.

Creating awareness among people about erectile dysfunction was really a tough job for Pfizer. When Viagra was launched people were aware of there problems but they felt ashamed of discussing these things with doctor or some close friend. At that time erectile dysfunction was a taboo. Pfizer worked hard to bring awareness among people about erectile dysfunction and its treatment with Viagra.

Before starting any awareness campaign or advertisement related to erectile dysfunction, Pfizer took approval from Vatican and other religious leaders so that there would be no religious or moral objections. Banners and TV ads were used to create awareness among people.

Earlier people do not know the word erectile dysfunction but it was known as impotence. Pfizer changed that name from impotence and named it as erectile dysfunction. It helped people in discussing there erectile dysfunction related problems with a doctor.

Viagra was not a drug which was supposed to be developed but it was developed from the research done for the treatment of Angina. Scientists realized that the drug which they have developed is not effective for the treatment of angina, but they found it effective for improving sexual power. Research was further carried and at last wonder drug Viagra was developed.

Viagra has changed life of millions of people suffering from erectile dysfunction. Earlier the treatment for erectile dysfunction were self injection, vacuum pump etc
