With the success of Viagra and its generic version like Penegra, Kamagra, erectile dysfunction ( E.D ) is no more an unknown ailment , what is unknown to most of us is physical deformation of the penis called Peyronies disease. A man would first notice a tender lump in the penis, which might later be followed by bending of the penis when erect, sometimes at very odd angles. Noticing a lump in the penis can be a frightening experience. Men are often concerned that they have developed a cancer.
Peyronies disease is a disorder affecting the penis that can cause a lump within the shaft of the penis, which on most occasions can be painful. The physical appearance of the erect penis changes to abnormal angulation. There are three main symptoms of Peyronies disease - pain, lumps in the penis and bending of the penis, but these are not present in all men and vary in severity.
Some men initially experience pain in their penis when they have an erection. Often this painful stage will disappear without any treatment. At this stage the man may be able to feel firm lumps (known as plaques) in the shaft of the penis. As these plaques develop he will notice bending or angulation of the penis when erect. In severe cases this distortion of the penis can make sexual intercourse impossible or extremely uncomfortable for both partners.
Although research is still on, however experts are not certain why some men get Peyronies disease and others do not. Several factors might be involved, including:
Genetics: occasionally the disease has a tendency to run in certain families (inherited or genetic predisposition), but this is not common.
Injury: Peyronies disease is more common after injury to the penis, such as penile fracture or forceful bending of the erect penis. It also occurs more frequently in men that give injections into the penis for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (impotence).
Diabetes: this is more common in men with Peyronies disease. As a result diabetes might also be involved in its development.
